Since the turn of the new millennium fancydress.com and Angels Fancy Dress have seen a massive increase in the popularity of fancy dress.  Corporate customers have made dressing up an important part of their celebrations and product launches, but it is the general public that have taken dressing up to their hearts in such large numbers! With this massive increase in the popularity of fancy dress the number of suppliers has increased, the huge majority of whom are 100% reliable?  We have not just set up a web site in our spare bedroom or garage, we have been supplying costumes for the entertainment industry for almost 170 years; way before the internet was ever dreamt of!

So we can supply an inexpensive costume out of a packet for you to purchase for only a few pounds or if you prefer we can hire you almost any costume your heart desires!   We have a massive warehouse that allowing us to stock an unrivalled range of costumes and accessories for sale in large numbers, filling next day orders is no mean feat!      Our shop on Shaftesbury Avenue has access to our film and TV costume, making it the largest fancy dress collection IN THE WORLD!  Although the public are not allowed to visit our warehouse we have 8 miles of costume rails hanging in one room.  Each hire costume has to be fitted to the customer’s individual requirements; we offer a truly personal service so you will need to visit the shop to hire.

We have been supplying costumes for almost 170 years and we have a massive amount of experience behind us!  It is only with the growth of the Internet and the development of such brilliant ideas as Tag Clouds that we have been able to take old information on order levels over the past few years and predict what will be in the hot slot for Halloween 2009. If you don’t know what a Tag Cloud is, take a look at the home page of fancydress.com and you will see an area with lots of blue words (bottom right corner), in varying size type.  This is made up of the most popular searches that we are receiving on our site, it makes a list and you can click straight through to the item or section.   Using both our sales history and the data from the sales history we are able to make predictions for the top 10 items for Ladies, Men and accessories.  The items are changing; in between making the prediction for Halloween Trends 2009 and the publishing of this story the Scream Mask has been pushed off the top 10 accessories and have be replaced by our horns kit!  Keep an eye on this section and you may see things change as the data evolves.
TOP PICKS It has been 20 years since the last Ghostbusters film, but this costume has been top of our Halloween pick for several years!  With another film planned for 2012, WHO YOU GONNA CALL?       The designers at Leg Avenue came up with this Witch a while back, it is popular year round.  When it comes to Halloween we shift them by the cauldron full!

The horns were a massive item years ago, but we were unable to get a reliable supply of them, now they are back with a vengeance and are better than ever!  The pair of horns is supplied along with strong spirit gum (designed for use on skin), gum remover and full instructions.

A word from the Make Up Counter

As Halloween is creeping closer more and more of you are looking at our make up section, trying to get the perfect look for your Halloween party. Our make-up team is dying for you to avoid the heavy use of white make up for fright night, thick white make-up should be reserved for clowns, now they really are scary!  Many customers at our shop are asking if pancake make-up is worth the extra money?  At this time of year the answer is Hell Yes!
	If you are being a vampire or one of the living dead then you should select Pancake in white, corpse or even better old age.   The problem with ageing is that we all loose a bit of tone in our skin, so the old age Make up is great when you want to look very pale, rather than painted white!  The benefit of using a pancake is that you get a finer coating of make-up, rather than a sold foundation of white; showing some of the skin tone under the make-up.  Pancake is more expensive than the tubes of water based make up but it goes a lot further and gives a exceptional coating, making it more comfortable to wear. If you want to save a little money use the white water based make up try mixing in a tiny drop of another colour, just to cut the brightness.   When you apply it try to put on as thin a layer as possible.  A handy tip is to have your sponge only just damp – not wet, otherwise you will look streaky.

How gory can you go? Our cut kit is one of our main sellers at Halloween.  This a simple package with wax, a tool and a bottle of blood; our instructions make it easy to create the most realistic cuts, wounds and other nasty effects.    Next time you have a KFC keep the long bone from the drumstick, we can show you how to slice the end off the bone and make it appear to stick out of your wrist joint!  Some effects are finger-lickin-good and others just plain nasty.

We have pallets of water based make up, great for making bruises and other effects, but these are also fantastic fun for face painting with the kids.  We don’t just do gore you know!

Our delivery charge for orders up to £70.00 placed before 12.00 noon Monday to Thursday this is a guaranteed next day delivery service. We normally dispatch your orders within 72 hours of receipt. Our web dispatch team do not work on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays; this means we do not ship on these days.

2 Free Delivery
UK Orders over £70.00 are delivered FREE OF CHARGE via our Standard Delivery Service (see above).

3 Express Delivery - Guaranteed Next Day Delivery
The charge for this service is £11.99. This service is posted the same day you place your order as long as it is before 2.00pm Monday to Thursday (due to arrive the next working day). Friday orders received before 2pm will be processed and posted same day but may not arrive until Monday.

4 Small Order Charge is £4.75 via first class Royal Mail Recorded Delivery
For orders less than £10.00 we offer a small order service of £4.75. Dispatch is by first class Royal Mail post recorded delivery. This is not a next day service and can take up to 3 to 5 working days to arrive. (Please note 3-5 working days: Bank Holidays, Weekends and other closed days are excluded).

The charge for this service is £5.50, our shop is located in Central London. By selecting the pick up option for this service, your order will be processed and delivered to our shop for collection. Your order will be ready for collection 24 hours after you have received an email from us headed order collection notification. Please note that all pickups must be paid for via our website. Twitter Seance

To mark Halloween 2009, we are holding a ‘Tweance’ – the world’s first interactive Twitter Séance – to allow users of the social-media service the chance to nominate departed stars or public figures that they would like to see contacted, along with a relevant question, and then monitor in real-time the progress of the resulting Halloween séance.

 

The ‘Tweance’ will be conducted by leading psychic Jayne Wallace – famous for having contacted the spirit of Jade Goody in a séance organised by The Sun – who will question four departed spirits as nominated by Twitterers.

The public are invited to tweet the name of person that they would like contacted, along with one question that they want posed, to @tweance (with the closing date for submissions on Friday 23rd October). On Monday October 26th, the shortlist of departed figures that have received the most nominations will be announced, along with a larger list of questions which might be put to them. The séance will be conducted between 10am and 12pm on Friday October 30th with questions and responses being tweeted in real-time from @tweance (http://twitter.com/tweance) and broadcast live at www.fancydress.com/tweance.



How the Twéance will work:

• In the run-up to Halloween, members of the public are asked to nominate one departed celebrity to be contacted, along with a question to be put to them, by tweeting to @tweance
• The four most popular nominees will be announced, along with a shortlist of questions on Mon Oct 26th on Fancydress.com
• Jayne Wallace will then communicate the questions on the morning of Friday October 30th with both questions and answers being relayed live to all those following the @tweance Twitter account or the live feed on fancydress.com

Twitters #FancyDressFriday explained

For the past few years twitter has been connecting people more and more, with celebrities, companies and people all being hooked on it, even we have been sucked into the addictiveness of Twitter.
 
For those of you who follow twitter and follow the trending topics you will have seen the term #FancyDressFriday.  Fancy Dress Friday is a weekly game played by a growing number of twitter users and is in fact very easy to play and is something we here at Fancydress.com absolutely love.
 
The Rules
    •    Change your profile picture on Twitter on Friday morning to one of you in fancy dress.
    •    Tweet that you have changed your profile picture and make sure that you put  #fancydressfriday at the end of your tweet so other people playing (and the person judging that weeks entrants) can find you and see your photo
    •    At around 10pm (BST) the judge will announce who the winner of #FancyDressFriday is.
    •    The winner must then keep their profile picture set to them in fancy dress for the whole of the next week and then they will have won the honour to be the judge of the entrants on the following Friday and must then choose the next winner.    

 

If you are planning on entering don’t forget to unprotect your tweets for the day if you normally protect them or the judge will not be able to find you in the tag search.

Trick Or Treat Sweets Now back in stock!

What do you mean it is too early to talk about trick or treat sweets?  We have been in contact with the manufacturers, they have sent over samples and we have been munching, crunching and chewing on the samples.  We have now come up with our favourite selection of Halloween Sweets for you to hand out to the Trick or Treaters, take to a party or just eat yourself!  You need to get your order in quickly as these are strictly limited stock, once they are gone there will be no more!
