Win an honor for your whole Town, City or Village on St George’s Day 2011!

Many people know the story of St George and his Dragon-slaying adventures, but fewer people know that he was Turkish-born and that he killed the Dragon in a town called Urgup in Central Anatolia, Turkey.  To celebrate the upsurge in the numbers of people dressing up for St. George's Day Angels Fancy Dress and fancydress.com have negotiated with Fahri Yildiz, the Mayor of Urgup, to twin a town with theirs.

Inhabitants of English villages, towns and cities that can demonstrate a historical, cultural or religious association with the tradition of St. George are invited to make a submission on why their town should be twinned with Urgup. More details can be found at
www.twinforgeorge.com

This unique opportunity started on St George’s Day (Friday 23 April 2010).  A shortlist of English towns, villages, or cities in the running for twinning with Urgup will be announced in Autumn 2010. The winning English town, as chosen by the Mayor of Urgup, will be announced on St George’s Day 2011.
