Angels, still at The Oscars!®
Angels, along with the rest of the Western World, have been glued to our TV sets, suffering from Oscar® Fever!
The 81st Annual Awards Ceremony featured a stunning tribute to The Musical, host Hugh Jackman was joined by Beyonce along with a host of dancers for a romp through this ever-popular film genre, singing, dancing and moving all the way. All of the male dancers were dressed by Angels, both Mr Jackman and the dancing girls also wore our top hats.
Angels prepared the costumes by request from the designer Catherine Martin, (married to Baz Luhrmann) who was this year nominated for her costume design work on ‘Australia’. Angels were delighted to have supplied costume and uniforms to this production. For the musical medley detailed measurements were sent over to London, images prepared and once approved the costumes had been pulled and accessorised and shipped off to LA.
Later in the evening the excitement level was again high for all at Angels when another costume drama, also dressed by Angels went on to win the Academy Award for Costume design, ‘The Duchess’ designed by Michael O'Connor.
The Angels Costume collection is the biggest and best in the world, you may wonder why an American based designer would want to ship tail suits out to Hollywood, the birthplace of the musical movie? The suits that were used at the awards were originally made by Angels for the Martin Scorsese production ‘The Aviator’; winner of the Costume Oscar in 2005. Sandy Powell, the costume designer on Aviator, requested very high waisted trousers to allow for movement of the actors (not necessarily dancing) without giving a flash of white between the bottom of the jacket and the top of the trouser. This made these suits ideal for use by the dancers, coupled with the fact that we have 200 and that none existed in the USA!
This latest tile brings us up to 31 films that have had costumes and uniforms supplied by Angels and have won Oscars® for 'Best Achievement in Costume Design'.
