back buttonWig Guidelines

We have drawn up some guidelines for putting on our wigs, we know you'll find them helpful; however if there are any other fancy dress items that you would like similar hints and tips for then do contact us.

Do you need a wig cap?
In most cases it does make the wig easier to put on and more comfortable to wear; the only exception to this is you have extremely short hair or are bald. If your hair is shorter than our models you may be able to pull the wig cap on and then push excess hair under the band of the wig cap, but if you have enough hair to twist and pin as shown then it is advisable to do it as this gives a firm base for the wig to sit on.

Gents
The same instructions apply to you; if you are changing your appearance one of the most dramatic things is a change of hairstyle. If you have very little hair you will only need to follow step 4, it helps to go through the instructions for 3. As a simple rule if your hair is below your collar you should have a wig cap.

Take a section of your hair and twist, pull it out from the head and ensure that is twisted from the roots to the tips; keep going all the way it will eventually twist in on itself and lie flat (as in No. 2).

We have done this 5 times around our models head, if your hair is not as thick you could get away with 4, if thicker you may need 6 around the head and one on top. The idea is to spread the hair out evenly and not end up with a large lump of hair which will make lumps and bumps under your wig.

As you finish twisting each section put 2 hair grips though the twist at right angles to each other. Try to catch some of the hair underneath as well, that way you will hold it closer to the head.

Pull on the wig cap. First, hold it firmly on your hair line (this is where the hair starts to grow at your forehead not the bottom of your fringe); then put your other hand in the wig cap and spread your fingers out as you pull the hand backwards letting go as you reach the back of your neck. You should then be able to make sure the sides are not caught up.

Pull the wig on, as above start with the wig in one hand and hold it against your hairline, pull the back of the wig down to the back of your head and then sort out the sides. Take a look in the mirror. One of the most common mistakes is to have the wig too low, a lot of our wigs have fringes, where would your normal fringe be?
