Black Eye and Bruising Guidelines
First you will need to do a little research.
Take a look on the internet, Google Images is always a good place to start, we all know what a bruise looks like, but when you actually come to make up a bruise on your healthy skin you can come unstuck. Look closely the image, it often has a centre to it and is not just a purple splodge and there can be tones of yellow and greenish areas around the edges.
We are having a go at a black eye, this can include some damage to the eye bag, we will be using a little burgundy and white grease paint to start that; you can miss out the white part and follow the remaining steps below to make general bruises wherever you need them.
You can use either the set of water colours or the bruise wheel - you do not need both products!
Please note: the finished bruise looks best if it is very subtle; we have exaggerated the colouring to make things clear in a photograph. Each bruise is individual and will vary greatly depending on the skin tone of the model.

1
Start with a brush loaded with deep burgundy cream based make up, draw a line of burgundy along the bottom of the eye bag, gently blend the edges of the burgundy so that you do not have a sold line.

2
Paint a white line above the red, once you have finished this should look like a raised area, the deep red should look like a sunken area, light and shade (just like in drawing). Then blend this in, as before.
|
3
Cream based make up will smudge unless you set it, so apply translucent dusting powder, work it into the surface of the paint with a powder puff and then brush away any excess.
|
4
Using our water based palette select yellow, green, blue and red. Rub a moist finger into each of the colours until you have collected sufficient shade and then wipe this onto the side of your hand. Clean off your finger and move onto the next colour (otherwise you will make a mess of your palette). You can then mix the colours on the back of your hand as required.

3
Mixing red and blue gives you purple, you can then apply all three colours around the eye. Do not try to be very neat, a bruise is random; also do not cover the whole area in uniform colour.
|
6
Next work around the edges with green and yellow, a newer bruise will have more red, blue and purple, an older bruise can be more green and yellow.

FINISHED
OUCH!
To remove wash the area with soap and water, remove any creme based make up with cleansing cream or moisturiser.
Please note: the finished bruise looks best if it is very subtle; we have exaggerated the colouring to make things clear in a photograph. Each bruise is individual and will vary greatly depending on the skin tone of the model.

Please Note
Always be careful with the skin of the eye area, do not drag the delicate skin.
