Yes it is (translator… Arr, that it be!).

Editor's note: to help us land lubbers out we have made translations clear, where we have a an English phrase that we are translating into Pirate we have made the English text red and the Pirate text green; hope that helps!
International Talk Like A Pirate Day started in the US 7 years ago and has been building in popularity. Here at www.fancydress.com we have a sudden splurge in Pirate Costume orders in the run up to September 19th. There is an official Talk Like a Pirate Site both in the US and here in the UK. The official site claims that the point to this day is, well, that it is pointless; pointless but fun. We say Hooray (Aye Aye to that n'all!)
There are several basic rules you need to get to grips with before you tackle the rich and complicated lexicon that is the Pirate language. You need to say things in a Piratey way, try this exercise out for size. Read out loud Arr, avast behind! (meaning I say, look out behind you!). Go on, we can't hear you Arr, avast behind!. I just did it in my normal speaking voice and one of the girls in the office was walking past, she just tried to slap my face!
More important than the language is the gruffness of the voice and talking out of one corner of your mouth. Go on have a practice Arr, avast behind! Arr, avast behind! Arr, avast behind! (Believe me after a while you stop feeling so stupid!)

Repeat things; never say Arr when you could say
Arr, Arr, Arr
Watch out that you do not confuse Arr with Arrgh! The first one is an untranslatable exclamation and the second one is the noise you make when the girl in the office slaps your face
Apostrophise almost everything, Take the phrase I say old chap, would you be so kind as to pass the bottle of fine liqueur? This will translate to Gim'I th'grog! Short and sweet, but you get the idea.
Try overdoing things, get over descriptive, this English compliment, Good evening Miss, you look rather nice in your delightful Pirate Costume! This translates to Arr m'arty! You got a great, fine, wondrous chest of Pirate treasure, turn about and let me clap eyes on ye Pirate booty! (Warning! The more liberated women may not appreciate such scurvy talk, but ai'nt that th' point?)

There are English to Pirate translators out there on the net, just do a search and your timber's will be a shiverin'
