Venetian Mask Collection

Well my little handbag clutching fabulously coutured Fancy Dress fans, soooo very sorry to not have been in touch with mere mortals such as yourselves, but one has been off to Venice Carnival.  Poor little Fancy Dress Fairy!

The trip was essential to get our collection of Venetian masks ready for your delight and delectation!  You try getting an hotel at last minute in the middle of all the excitement and excess, poor old us had to stay right bang in the centre of all that fab-u-less-ness in a marble encased cell, with deliciously delightful furnishings, overlooking some large expanse of water.  Still, I did it all for you, I suffer for my art to bring you these fantastic items!  

Over the next few days we will be taking photographs of these masks and sending them up to the site.  We go to some of the oldest mask producers in Venice, they are using methods and skills that have remained unchanged for hundreds of years.  

We were talking to one of our suppliers and they agreed to let us have a look in the workshop; what an honor, not many folks are allowed in there!  Each mask is meticulously finished, decorated, trimmed and varnished ALL by hand  (you do need to watch out for the nasty mass-produced plastic imitations that are flown in from the Far East).  It was incredible to see the masks left out to dry in a row, each one perfect but with subtle variations in styling, depending on the whim of the artisan working on it.

We look forward to another wonderful Venetian Season!  Now where did I put that wonderful fake handbag, I just had to have it!
